Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origins of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is inconceivable because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern science shunned miracles because they feared they might lose their credibility. Some creationists are able to accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their view “theistic evolution.” This is also known as “continuous evolutionism” or the “evolution of species created.” The theory says that God creates species from scratch and allows them to change over time. Then these evolutionary changes will create new species that are like the original ones. Other creationists hold that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, called the Great Flood. They believe that the original species were created at the same time, and that they grew slowly afterwards. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis and claim that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is not possible. In general, creationists are against teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional associations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some academic institutions and scientists are, however, more flexible and permit both evolution and creationism to be included in their curricula. What is Creationism? Publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they would remove the mention of evolution in their books. STR has secured its first victory in taking away examples of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx, from textbooks. Its sights are now set on removing snippets of Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution too. STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and members. Its mission, it states is to clear the world of what it calls “atheist materialism” which portrays a negative view for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of trainees in biology revealed that a majority of them didn't believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear but could be due to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country. The KACR has achieved a number of things in the past through seminars and lectures. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. This led to an interest in the college community. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor began teaching Creation Science in one university and it is taught to this day. On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six foreign lecturers, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed an audience of several thousand. KACR and its members have given lectures on creation science in major seminaries, too. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
